Reflect on and discuss what the following questions reveal about your heart
- What do I spend the most time, energy, or resources doing?
- For whom or what am I willing to sacrifice the most?
- Where do I look for ultimate approval?
- Where do I find my identity?
- In whom or what do I put my greatest trust?
- What controls my mood or emotions?
- What do I worry most about?
- What do I fear losing more than anything?
- What gives me comfort?
- What am I willing to sin to get or experience?
- Without ________________ my life would be meaningless.
- If I only had __________________my life would have meaning.
What would it mean to confess and put to death the idolatry in your heart these questions may have uncovered? What would it mean to repent of such idolatry?
Repentance involves turning to embrace who you are in Christ, who God is for you in Christ, and what He has promised you in the kingdom of Christ. How does the gospel give you comfort and power to turn from your sin? How does the gospel empower you to turn from your sin in obedience to God?
Does knowing sin is actually worshiping something other than Jesus change the way you view it? How should understanding repentance turn from the worship of self to the worship of Jesus change the way you think about repentance?
